albums that have shaped my life
Recently (on Facebook) i was tagged in a Chain Thing or whatever that got me thinking long and hard, the question was “what 20 albums of all time have shaped you’re life in some way or another”. it took me a long time to come up with this list, (being that i’m obsessed with music, it shouldn’t have been so hard, but when it comes down to it. even just liking an album doesn’t make it “shape my life” so i had to take a while and dig deep to find these… by the way… all of them are AMAZING CD’s and worthy of making it to your Ipod, so download them. you’ll be happy.
This Is My List:
1) The Clarks - Another Happy Ending This album takes me back to my senior year of highschool, i’m not sure why, but it always makes me think of the “easier” times when things were…. i don’t know… simple? i had just graduated junior year when this came out and the song “Boys Lie” from that day forth has been played out whenever a guy has pissed me off… no questions asked.
2) The Ataris- Blue Skies, Broken Hearts… Next 12 Exits Again, from back in highschool, this cd was circa 9th grade or something? i can’t remember, but i just love this CD, it has played in EVERY single car i’ve ever owned (and we’re up to 7 now). and i’ve been through 3 copies of the CD (bought in store, countless more that i have burned from my computer) this CD will NEVER get old to me, it just is an amazing easy (and creative i may add) view on love, relationships, and breaking up… in the form of 12 great songs.
3) Fall Out Boy - From Under The Cork Tree This CD goes back to the summer after my Sophomore year in college, the time in my life i would trade ANYTHING to return to. i loved that time in my life, i loved my people, my apartment, my job, and basically everything that i had going on with my life, i love to listen to listen to this CD and think back to the best summer/fall of my entire life.
4) Weezer - The Green Album No giant reason for this, its just an amazing Album by one of my most favorite groups (but come on… Hash Pipe? great song.
5) Breaking Benjamin - We Are Not Alone First real concert i ever attended was of Breaking Benjamin, (Hed) PE, and Saliva (jagermeister music tour 2003) Best. Concert. Ever. … hands down. - spring senior year of highschool.
6) Staind - 14 Shades of Grey this may be cheesy, but if i ever have a daughter, she will be named after one of the songs on this CD, the song, named and written for Aaron Lewis’ (lead singer) Daughter
7) Wallflowers - Bringing Down the Horse AMAZING CD, Jakob Dylan (lead singer and son of Bob Dylan) is an AMAZING musician. this was my first CD ever. (and what a great first i must admit)
8) Bob Dylan - Dylan (3 disc set) I couldn’t pick a specific album that i could call my favorite, but since i’ve been very, very, young, i’ve been obsessed with Bob Dylan, i couldn’t even tell you why, since my parents aren’t big fans at all. but this 3 CD set has all the greats… and i love it.
10) Avenged Sevenfold - City of Evil This CD reminds me of friends i had in college and was my first A7x CD. I love this CD. After hearing this CD i HAD to buy every other A7x CD that came out before and has come out since, hands down one of my most favorite bands.
11) Primus - They Can’t All Be Zingers No other reason except that its the ultimate cruising CD ever made, ever…. its the “best of Primus” CD
10) The Doors - The Best of The Doors (circa 1985) Basically the same reason why i love the Bob Dylan CD set, again… have been a fan since i was way young, but not sure how because parents weren’t fans… but i have a feeling, i was just born in the wrong decade. i would have thrived in the time period of the Doors and Bob Dylan.
12) Sugarcult - Start Static This CD reminds me of my old truck, Duke, my favorite truck, because it was in a constant loop in the CD player. i’m sure this is what everyone says, but “Pretty Girl (the way)” has alot of personal meaning to me
13) Red Hot Chili Peppers - Californication giant fan of RHCP and this is my personal favorite CD, First song ever played in my car after i got my license = Californication.
14) Flaming Lips - Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robot the first song that ever reminded me of a boy was on this CD, i know… i was super lame back then. but still this is an amazing CD and a great band… in my opinion…best under-rated band out there.
15) Everclear - Sparkle and Fade ummmm i don’t know why, i came across this Cd when i was like 14 or something… and as lame as most people think this band is, I’ve always loved them. Santa Monica is my favorite song, this is probably when my dream of moving to LA began… i believe (well, along with other catalysts too)
16) Guns And Roses - Appetite for Destruction Come on. hands down best rock and roll album ever wrote. turned me onto a more rock influence rather than focusing on the Bob Dylan and Doors and my “eclectic” taste in music began.
17) Weezer- The Blue Album Buddy Holly = favorite song from age like 13 to 17
18) The Clarks - Fast Moving Cars Reminds me of the Beginning of College and my first long relationship (and bad break up) with great “get over break-up” songs
19) Damien Rice - O wouldn’t you know it… another boy… haha (if you know my, you’ll undertand that) but this was the first cd that i ever really understood that a story could be told by the tracks of a CD, played all the way through (after this i started to like them, next favorite story telling CD, American Idiot - Green Day)
20) J Minus - Sun and Moon most recently addition, i’ve only had this for a few weeks, but it has already meant more to me than most CDs I’ve owned. track two of this 2 CD set is the first song that i can completely relate to myself, ever. for a person, such as me, that puts so much weight into the lyrics of songs, (but to never find a song that were the words to my life until now) this album means alot to me.
